Comment here and Gene will tell you (in blunt and possibly insulting phrases) exactly what he thinks of your character. Because Sam did it and Gene WANTS TO BE JUST LIKE SAM. Because the mun is bored.
He thinks River is, you know, basically off her nut. And possibly into drugs. And weirdly perceptive. Really, he doesn't know what to think of her. He's curious about her and wary of her and feels slighty protective of her if it turns out to be true that she was tortured. Coppers instinct and all to protect the vulnerable. That Sam seems chummy with her also factors in, but Gene hasn't decided if it's in favour of River or against. So really he just doesn't know and is going to remain stand-offish and wary and watchful.
Simon seems like a level guy in Gene's eyes. Though that whole thing about being fugitives gives him pause. He would write Simon off as someone who could be a trouble maker but he can't quite bring himself to, not with how protective Simon seems of his sister. Which is weird for Gene, as he's used to making judgments about people immediately. With Simon (and River) he knows there's more of a story there, and so he knows the best thing to do is wait.
But he doesn't trust either of them, really, and would not hesitate to suspect them of some duplicity.
