I just had my best substitute teaching stints this week. It was a sad reason - the second grade teacher's mom was in the hospital and wasn't expected to make it over night, so she left early on Thursday. I'm still the go-to girl for sudden substitution needs, so I got pulled in to teach the second graders for two days. It was a chaotic week to begin with, and I didn't really need something else on top of it, but I know better than to argue. Beside, it's one of my favorite classes, and it's only 16 kids - the second smallest class in the school, I think. Small tends to make it a little easier to handle being a sub. It was also the final week for the junior high kids that I normally teach to get in assignments before the progress reports grades needed to be calculated.
Although the teacher left suddenly, so a lot of the worksheets and such were hard to find, but I made it through, and even managed to find most of them. Even better, there was little planned for the Valentine's party on Friday, so I got to throw that together from scratch in a day's time. I was also out until midnight that Thursday night ... ah, well. The kids did a pretty good job listening, and most of the work got done, too! Plus, it was nice to be part of a v-day party again, instead of just on the outside looking in as a resource teacher who wasn't needed much that afternoon!
