Graduations

This week was quite eventful. The eighth grade class from the school that I'm teaching at graduated on Wednesday evening, and the kindergartners graduated yesterday morning. The eighth grade one was very nice. There was a service in church, and then a reception afterwards in the school. There were only eight kids in that class who graduated (two of them didn't get passing grades) so it was a small, simple, almost personal ceremony. All of the teachers were given flowers, too, which was a nice gesture. I was rather surprised when Kayla came over and handed me two carnations, as I hadn't really worked with that class much and wasn't expecting to be included. I did get a hug during the reception from Fazario when I stopped to congratulate him, which was sweet ... but somehow typical of him, too. He's such the showman, so entirely charasmatic.

The kindergarten graduation yesterday was adoarable!! Each class had paper graduation hats and got graduation certificates. They performed, singing two songs, before they got their certificates, and then were each called, one by one to get them. I took a lot of pictures, and tried to focus on getting pics of those kids whose parents didn't come ... I'm hoping to give the pictures to their older siblings so that their parents can see how gorgeous these little kids looked. I also asked for a last-minute picture of the twins (a fraternal, boy/girl pair in K4) before they left, and their parents said I could and got the kids back in their hats with their certificates, and immediately the little boy leans over and gives his sister a kiss on the cheek, and stays, posed, for the pictures. It was SO cute!

Unfortunately, the rest of the school still has class until the end of next week, but with so many gone, I only have two hours scheduled each day (except for Monday, when I have another field trip to go on), which is really nice. It's giving me time to get organized and to plan, as I found out that I'm going to get my own classroom next year!
