Can we fix it? You better bet we can.

Well, band camp started yesterday. The smell of the school sent shivers down my spine. Does school seriously start a week from today? *smiles sadly* I saw my friends for the first time in two months and it was a momentous, joyous occasion. Pray for my dad, as you know, weeks ago he had awful back problems... (he was in the hospital for a week). He's having a few muscle back spasms every one in a while that are very painful. Pray for peace, guidance, and comfort. I've been finishing up our summer required reading: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Man, that kid is a rascal. That Aunt Polly needs to just chain him to... i don't know... a piano or something and put him in a cage. Then she would feed him twice a day... only bread and water and a little meat when he was good. If only, if only, the world followed the outline of our dreams... :-)

I've been thinking of Jeremy's excellent Bob the Builder analogy, descrbing Nehemiah's commission to rebuild the wall. What a great God-given vision. The Bible is a home improvement manual, or rather a life improvement manual. Step by step directions, and sometimes, directions that seem strange but leave the project looking great. There are articles in a home improvement manual that tell how to replace things in the home that are worn, articles on how to renew things that need help from the Builder, articles on how to work on a house, all the way from the foundation to the roof. It has directions on how to not only worry about the paint and carpet (outside) but also the drywall and studs, support, and frame (inside). Then our buddy Bob would be God. Of course, he would not need the step-by-step do-it-yourself directions, as God does not need the Bible. He wrote it. But, instead, it is directions for us, to construct a wonderful life. We must do the work. After repairing and renewing our house, we have been commissioned, as God's builders under him, the Number One Builder, to go out unto the world and shed light, so that others may accept and God will repair and renew their homes. He gives us the manual, the tools, and a hand whenever we need it. But it is our commision. Are you ready to work?

A house always needs improvements.
