So, I've been wrangled? into also writing book reviews. Occasional book reviews. This is, I feel, a Good Thing on several levels. It will let me practice my writing. It will encourage me to boldly read where no Punji has ever read before. It will let me be scathing with out having to explain things to The General Populous. It will give me some common talking points with my near and dear.
Will I have anything new or useful to say? Maybe. Will it be entertaining to read? If I hate the book, then probably, yes. Will I tackle the Twat-light trilogy? No. Hell, no. I'll read the stupid Energy Bus, but a girl's gotta' have standards.
The big problem is...What should I read? My taste in literature is like my taste in movies, which is to say, I want explosions, humor and a happy ending. I'll forgive a lot to be entertained; to, for a moment, forget whatever crap in life that has me volcanic or despairing.
And then, because I was poking around, I rediscovered The List that I posted here, oh so long ago. Money. I can read that list. I bet most of it is free online, too. I don't mind spending my money on a book I like, but I'm not sure I want to own War and Peace. Actually....I think I have a copy of that anyway. And I can get even more classic than that, courtesy of my parents shelling out the extra for the Great Works of Literature companion set for our physical encyclopedia.
I miss physical encyclopedias. I understand why they went away, but they were real.
Anyway. I gots stuff, and I'm going to read it. Maybe I'll throw some Ringo in there. I do be loving me some Roman/Marine Tactics in Futuristic Settings. Some Weber, too...Honor and I share a love a cocoa and a proper disdain for coffee.
Oorah!
