I finally finished the scanlated Akumetsu last night. It broke my heart reading the raws, but being able to actually understand it all. I wanted to cry. So bad. Talk about emotional and bad ass. Fuck. That was an interesting read and experience, and I feel so frustrated when I realize how little of a fanbase Akumetsu (and for such trivial reasons), especially compared to shitty stuff out there (that I'm tempted to list). Okay, I'll go ahead and name Death Note, because it's mostly Akumetsu's concept without all the genius and the same level of overall development.
Akumetsu is like the One Piece of niche manga. One Piece is somehow mainstream (in Japan, I can see it. Other countries? No.), although I still consider it obscure, especially for one of the top manga internationally, of Jump and just how wonderful it is. But put beside stuff like Naruto, Bleach and even Hetalia, and it's just 'the pirates with ugly art'. What got me? Last night, I found it my friend likes Soul Eater. And thinks One Piece's art is uglier. LOLRLY!? I cannot stand the Soul Eater art. It is horrendous to me. I think it's improved a little, and One Piece didn't start off pretty, but neither did Naruto or Bleach (looking back, both have relatively nice art now, but they were fugly when they started).
And poor Akumetsu. I swear it's seinen. Although it's apparently shounen for all intents and purposes. Either way, it's obscure and mostly unloved. I'm glad Wolf Guy is drawing Akumetsu's fanbase and one of its own though. Those two guys seriously deserve a fanbase the size of Kubo and both Kishimoto brothers. Not only is their art fantastic, consistent and highly detailed, but their story-telling is simply dynamic. Thinking it over, it's probably on par with One Piece. Anywho, I forgot what else I was going to say.
Oh! Well, nintendo power made me happy beyond words yesterday. I don't even remember everything else except next issue will have serious Nintendo power talk (SMG2, Other M, etc), but it had so much NMH2. Maybe I should re-read it to make me feel better about Akumetsu. More importantly, I guess I just wish Tabata and Yugo-sensei had more manga. Please? Please give me more.
I'd like a list as long as Fukumoto-sensei's. And I'd also like some Lequois scanlations. Or even raws.
