Review: Could you please move your stick? There are people trying to get past you.

It was one thing when ‘A’ was just harassing four teenage girls. Or when ‘A’ killed Jason, who everyone thought was a murderer anyway, and made it look like a suicide. But with a great blend of mystery and suspense this week, things just got a little more real on Pretty Little Liars.

In “I Must Confess,” Emily has reached her limit with ‘A,’ and they all decide to tell their therapist everything, albeit with dangerous consequences. The doctor may now be out as a result, but A is most definitely on her way back in.
Pretty Little Liars (s02e11): I Must Confess

When you have an episode with a kick-awesome opening and ending sequence, you know the rest in-between is going to be a treat. The girls, and especially Emily, have been the butt of A’s sick jokes for who knows how long. (No really, how long has it been?) So it’s no surprise Emily’s at the brink, and they all decide to tell Dr. Sullivan, rather than lose Emily and themselves to A’s whims.

Emily: I am not going to be used as a bowling bowl to knock down my best friends.

I think it’s interesting that when Hanna was told to out Aria’s relationship, she did it. But when Emily’s told to do the same, she tries to find another way out. Emily may be cracking under the pressure, but I think she’s stronger than she realizes.

When ‘A’ was only messing with the girls, it seemed a little like a cat playing with a mouse. But now it feels like a whole different ball game. I got chills when Dr. Sullivan answered the phone to a recording of her voice playing over and over again. And it’s not surprising, with Garrett investigating that the police are no help at all.

Toby became my new favorite character this week. It’s easy to take for granted that he’s been a trustworthy friend to all the liars, helped them solve different pieces of the puzzle, and this week stood up for Spencer against her father. Of course, that just means he’ll soon be in harm’s way.

At this point, I’m thinking Jason is Spencer’s half-brother. It would go a long way to explaining why her dad went along with covering up Alison and Jason’s grandmother’s will. And why he’s covering up any evidence they find and telling Spencer to stay away from him. Someone doesn’t want to get found out.

And you’d think with all of A’s drama, the girls would be more attuned to things not being on the ‘up and up’. I can’t believe Hanna let Kate trick her into drinking vodka while she just downed water. But we are talking about Hanna here, and I guess she’s not immune to some good ol’ fashioned trickery.

Hanna clearly wasn’t lucky enough to get the smart genes from her dad’s side of the family. Her grandma is one smart and sneaky whipper-snapper. I just about died when she said, “I just need to wipe the dew from my lilly.” Later we learn the real reason the writers have Hanna’s grandma around, for a flashback with Ali trying to get Jason out of their grandma’s will. Hm.

Maya: Relax. I’m not leaving until I get my calamari.

Aria’s brother Mike is still dealing with whatever he’s dealing with. Only now he’s injuring their mother who’s having Aria hide it from their father. As if that ever works. Let’s not forget Maya’s sudden reappearance, too. Her and Emily are really cute together. But I’m not getting invested because I doubt she’ll be sticking around for too long.

So is Dr. Sullivan dead now because of ‘A’? My guess is yes. She’s kind of the new Ian, the body we’ll find sooner or later. Or maybe not at all. But in some ways, ‘A’ harassing and getting rid of Dr. Sullivan is the most real moment the show’s had yet. I mean, adults are bound to notice she’s missing and actually care, right? And  it all happened just as she made the connections to figuring out A’s identity. Darn.

Notes:

Don’t think that I missed Noel during the assembly at school. And Mona mouthing”boring” while Dr. Sullivan talked was too funny.

I love that Hanna and Caleb are still talking and connected.

I must found out the name of the song used in the closing scene.
