Well, I went to my second Counselling Session today....
Today we talked about some of the various 'Triggers' that might bring about things like my Depression, or my Anger Issues
Didn't go into any real Detail as such to start with, but, she gave a few 'Generic Examples' and asked if anything like that might apply to me
Hmmmm....
Well, she *seems* to know what she's talking about, but, so far at least, she seems to be conducting most of these Sessions from a Text Book
I know this, because she had the same Book today that she did last week....even though we were using a different Room today
My guess is that, while she may well be Qualified, I'm thinking that she might not actually be that Experienced
While she didn't actually pick up the Book and Quote from it as such, she *did* have a number of Photocopies that she was referring from, and most were from *a* Book, if not that actual one, and she *did* have that Book close, obviously in case she needed it
Still....these Sessions arn't actually Costing me anything (I hope not, anyway....they keep telling me that they're Free, so I'm going by that), and I daresay they'll Help to at least *some* extent, so, I'll keep going to them for the time being
Today, she gave me some Home Work to think of an Example of a time that I got Angry or Depressed, and what triggered it, as well as to find an Example during the week where I Planned an Activity that might give me Pleasure, and what the Outcome actually was (like, did I actually do such Activity or do something else instead), and how I felt about it
Again, this seems to be taken from the Book that she keeps with her
Granted, I might not be giving her enough slack in this, as it's not like I should expect her to be an Expert, but, if all she does is refer to Photocopies from a Book and get me to fill in some kind of Activity Sheet, then I might well be better off just getting said Book and just reading it myself
For that matter, I may just well be better off just reading through my copy of The Big Book that I bought earlier this year that deals with Adult Children of Alcoholic Parents, but, I guess it's always better to just *talk* to someone about these things, rather than just reading it off a page
Blogging helps, sure, as it at least gives me an 'outlet', but, having someone to actually *talk* to, you just can't beat that :-)
Oh....
I saw a Quote today that I can relate to....
"He doesn't just have Issues, he has complete Subscriptions" :-p
