The riots have stopped- mostly- but Latvijas is still in turmoil. I have not been paying as much attention as to what has been going on in the fatherland due to personal issues, but now that I've gotten a moment to speak with a few friends over the internet...
What I'm hearing is troubling.
Our government is so conflicted right now...funding is being scattered, major projects like the extension to the Rigan International Airport or the Palace of Light for the Latvian National Library are being shafted or reallocated in really, well- unusual ways. I'm not saying that the officials aren't trying to do their best for the Latvian public but... It's all very concerning. Especially since Diena- a wonderfully innovative and more or less the last free press paper in the republic- has been bought out by politicians. W-which isn't always bad but the viewpoint is considerably more skewed and the paper's already lost so many subscribers due to scandal. It's been one year since then and the situation is looking grimmer by the month.
Sergejs Ancupovs, please prove me wrong...
I can only hope that we will toil through this as we always have, Latvijas. I have faith that we'll rise to the occasion and beat this deficit together.
