So, we just had the end of the year assembly sending the 8th graders off to high school and moving the 7th graders into 8th grade status. Now, my work for 2006-2007 will need to start. Work is great. i am the "resident computer geek", or at least that is how I like to put it. The official title is Instructional Assistant - Technology/Computer Resourced Teacher. That second part gives me an extra $1000 per year paid in the semester(s) I work. It is very enjoyable.
The one (semi) down side is that I have to be an expert in Mac immediately, like NOW. Before OS X, I didn't like how Mac's held your hand. I felt like it was too friendly, so I didn't use it very much. In fact, I avoided it all I could, just so I would know that the operating system did not keep me from doing the "techie" things I like doing. Sheer laziness kept me from trying to learn OS X when it came out. Well, that and the fact I couldn't get a position allowing me to work with Mac's that much.
My District boss advised me to get a Mac's for Dummies genre book to learn it fast. She also advised me to check a laptop out for over the summer to immerse myself in OS X. Now, off to preparing to next school year.
