Rohan's Lesson

Nov 07, 2004 23:45

I said that people who were fat growing up in high school always felt self conscious,
less worthwhile, under confident all their lives because what those people did to them
was beating their self confidence down and destroying it and it would stick with them all
of their lives.

Rohan asked me if I cared what the ants thought of me. "Do you care what any particular
ant thinks of you? Do you care if this ant or that ant thinks you're popular or fat or
worthless? Do you care if the ants sit there and think "ooh the big mammals are huge.
They're so dumb." Does any of that matter? Do you ever even consider what an ant is
feeling about you?"

I thought, considered a moment, then replied almost humorously, a tear in my eye, "Only
when they're biting me."

Rohan didn't have to say another word. I paused, smiled despite myself then fell into his
arms and cried... His point was made.

There is no reason I should ever care what any one else thinks of me... because the only
time it ever hurts enough to matter... is when they're biting me...

I love you Rohan... with all my heart.
