Teeth and housing

I havn't posted in a while, a fact that has been pointed out to me pointedly.

Last Thursday I went to Becky's house to learn to make a chain bracelet.

Scott was there helping Becky so I called Rick and asked him to come over. Rick and Scott ended up playing with a Rubik's Cube while Becky, Laura and I made the bracelets. Becky made mini apple pies with caramel and Rick was eating one when his tooth fell out. It was a tooth that he had had a root canal and cap on. The cap broke came out bringing the upper part of his tooth with it but leaving the root and some jaggedy sticky up peices.

Friday he stopped in to move up the dentist appointment he had already made because his tooth felt wrong. The dentist got him right in a chair and spent 4 hours pulling out the leftover bits of teeth (along with another tooth that had to come out) and screwing a titanium plate to his jaw so when it heals over he can install an implant false tooth.

The day before yesterday his jaw started really hurting. He went back to the dentist and he has what is known a dry socket.
A "dry socket" occurs when the blood clot is lost from an extraction site prematurely. Basically, the blood clot in the socket serves the same two functions as a "scab" on a skin surface cut. First, it assists in the cessation of bleeding and second, it protects underlying structures during the healing process. When the blood clot is lost before the underlying structres have had time to heal, bone is exposed to the oral environment along with fine nerve endings. This is an exquisitely painful but otherwise relatively harmless situation.

On a happier note, Katrina is finally moving out of the horrid apartment she was in.  Her new place is a lot more expensive, but also a lot nicer.

This makes me happy.  I am sure her health and general state of mind will improve when she is not surrounded by cigarette smoke and black mold.

Between the dentist and helping with the expenses to get Katrina into the nicer place, I am now so broke I can't even afford to pay attention.  I apologize in advance if I offend anyone being more spacey than usual.  It's really not my fault.
