So I’ve been struggling really hard and stressing myself out massively over this Sherlock Convention. The problem? The theater I want to use doesn’t seat a lot of people, so there might be more people who want to come than I can accommodate. So then I started looking for a different place and that was an exercise in frustration and failure. I finally found a place that I looked at on Thursday which has a lot more seats, but, if people who say they’re interested don’t actually end up paying/coming, could really put me in a bad spot. More stressing.
So I just sat down and made a list of the pros and cons of the two spaces and here’s what it comes out to.
Film Center:
Pros - nice location, easy parking, 2 big lobbys, more panel space, easy set-up accessibility, cheaper cost (by a LOT), no risk of having to cancel or not having enough funds to make it happen.
Cons - smaller theater, may have to turn people away
NWFF:
Pros - 2 theaters, so plenty of seats
Cons - icky location, difficult parking, one small lobby, less panel space, difficult set-up accessibility, much higher cost, high risk of not having enough people to cover the cost of the rental.
The only level on which they are equal is the length of time that I can rent them.
So as much as I’m sure people will be disappointed, I think logically I should go with the Film Center. There is only one point on which the NWFF is better, and since I don’t currently have enough people committed to coming to be even close to breaking even on that location, I am very leery of picking it.
I haven’t 100% decided yet, because I hate letting people down, but the choice seems kinda obvious I think…
