I made my first church service and also attended my first mass in Italy and in Europe this morning. My roommate and fellow chorister O'Neal were the earliest to arrive (That's seven Euros for us!. The responsorial psalm was from Ezekiel 2:2-5 on refers to the Israelites as a rebellious house, the second reading was from the second letter of apostle Paul to the Corinthians (2 Cor 12:7-10)The gospel today is from the book of Mark 6: 1-6, about the issue of "seeing is believing" and the causes of of unbelieving in one's faith.
Good thing I understood a bit of Italian, because the priest didn't speak english at all. After the mass, we sang our all-male and all-female songs, all in Latin.
After the mass, our host family went to lunch in our neighbor's house. As usual, we ate the typical Italian dishes, except pasta and pizza. Just beef with tomatoes, cornmeal, salted bacon with olives and bottles of water and wine. Yup! Me piaccono!
What an experience of a lifetime.
Too bad, our neighbor's daughter, Sandra has a boyfriend already. Sheesh...
