Oh my goodness did it ever hit me last night - MY BABY GIRL IS IN GRADE ONE!!
For the last couple of days, we have talked on what is going to happen (ie: her starting school, and being in a classroom ALL DAY). Well, not inside a classroom all day but she got the point of her being at her school for the entire day. Which she is used to since she was a year and a half (back when I had to begin working early in hr life).
Last night, the madness began:
-Made supper
-Gave her a bath
-Gave her a haircut
-Blow-dried her hair
-Put on her pijamas
-Read her a bedtime story
-Tucked her in bed ... though that part didn't work, she just slept in my bed :-P
Before leaving the bedroom, she asks me: "Mom, am I going to school tomorrow?" And I responded: "Yes, you are. You are no longer in Kindergarten, you're a big girl and going into Grade ONE" She looks at me, puzzled and frowning, then her eyes lit up and with a huge grin she says: "I'm a big girl now! *frowns again* But I don't want to go to school!"
Poor kid - I really thought I did my best to get her excited. When we went to get her supplies, I got her to choose what she wanted, the colours, to put the stuff in the cart ... and she WAS excited.
So I went to bed, dreading the morning. Hoping that she wouldn't bawl or be too clingy in order for her to have a nice first day back to school.

This morning, she was up and awake by 6AM!! That never happened through out the entire summer! She was pumped and excited and ready to take on the world!
I made her some breakfast, she got dressed, got her shoes on - and out the door we went!
At first she was a little shy, but then when the teacher spoke to her and greeting her, her little face was so pleased. And she gained her confidence and rushed to her classmates and lined up in front of the teacher.
She did great. Once they got to their classroom, she waved goodbye to me, but then quickly ran to me and said: "Mommy, you can go home now, I'm fine. You'll pick me up later!"
OMG my heart just melted and I got teary. My baby is growing so quickly, and I cannot get over how much of a wonderful person she is becoming. I can't help but to be so proud of her.
