Saludos de Metapec Mexico

Taking a break from a very busy day here in Mexico. Rodolfo and I drove from Brownsville to Metepec (Toluca) on Saturday. It took most of the day (700) miles but the weather was good and we didn´t hit rain until we entered the state of Guanajauato. The weather so far has been cold and rainy.....and while I like the heat, I have to say it is a welcome break. We are at 10,000 feet elevation and it is the rainy season here so summers can be quite chilly. We drove down to nationalize the van and make it Mexican so that it can be regestered here in Metepec legally. The bulk of the afternoon was spent waiting in line at the equivalent of the DMV....not at all an unpleaseant experience and I´m learning a bit more about the in´s and out´s of every day live here. Yesterday we went to Valle de Bravo and spent the entire day walking and enjoying the sites. Valle de Bravo is on the other side of the mountains and is a very old mountain town on the shores of a beautiful lake. The landscape looks alot like nothern california and is where the pine forests give way to the tropical forest. While nice and comfortable during the day it gets chilly enough for a fireplace at night even in summer and never gets below freezing. The scenery is lush and green with giant pine trees and ferns and it rains just about everyday....especially now in the rainy season. Tomorrow we need to go to Mexico City to get some visa work done but I´m a little hesitant becuase of all the protests regarding the prd and the contested presidential election. It´s going to be a madhouse....beyond the typical madhouse that is Mexico City. It should be interesting. We are taking a bus to the Metro station and subwaying it all the way in to avoid any congestion. Protestors had blocked L Reforma which is one of the main arteries in the city....really nuts. Hopefully on the way back we can catch the 3-d superman movie at the imax at plaza santa fe. On wednesday we take a flight back to Monterrey and then take the bus back to Matamoros. Croass the border to Brownsville and it´s back to work. In the mean time I´m just going to enjoy the break from the busyness and take it easy on this vacation. Hell I must be resting...I´ve had a chance to update my journal!!! That´s a start.
