Ever since her mistake, Esme has been quite content to stay in the house. She's terrified of repeating it.

Luckily, Carlisle's boxes arrived from Ohio and she threw herself into going through them and organizing his belongings; storing things they didn't need, repairing things that were broken.

Edward has given them both their space. Carlisle's grateful.

He comes home from work to hear Esme in her room. He doesn't hesitate to peer in and check up on her.

"Hello, Esme."

"Hello, Carlisle," Esme replies, sparing a brief glance up from the wooden box she is sanding. "How was your shift at the hospital?"

"Mediocre. I'll be right back."

It's habit by now -- check in on Esme, moving back to his room to hang up his coat and put away his things so he can come back.

When he returns: "Dare I ask what new project you've managed to find?"

"This old box has lovely carvings, but it was in sore need of some care," Esme says.
