Today I am grateful.

Today I am grateful I had the opportunity to write my tribute to Richard Catarelli.

I am grateful that I have a job where I am able to take care of children who must be taken from their homes and make sure they are safe and well-cared for.

I am so grateful for things like these because they keep me from being a self-centered drama queen, who whines constantly about her own life, without any real consideration for others. These things force me to be grateful for what I have in my life - even though by normal standards, my life sucks. Everyone's life sucks to some degree, but if we allow ourselves to wallow in our own misery and don't take the time to remember the suffering and lost of others, then we become a burden to all around us with our constant bids for attention.

There is a term in my psychology book called "differed responsibility". It explains why people who are surrounded by large groups are actually less likely to be helped than when there are fewer people around, because everyone is thinking that someone else is going to help.

Today, let that someone else be you and I will do the same.
