Children

Usually when I interact with the children at the shelter, I pray that most of them leave to live with responsible relatives - or close family friends. Just as long as it's someone the child knows and can be trusted. Other children I pray will go to good foster or group homes. Some I hope they can be place in an institution suited for their special needs. (And some I just hope we can find a place able to survive the child.) Young children that cannot go back to family, I hope get wonderful adoptive parents.

Occassionally I think it might be nice to care for one of them longer than I do, but it's usually only a passing thought. I am quite content to take care of almost all of them for just a short time.

This morning was the first time I've come across a child I actually wanted to take home with me. I don't know her story. I didn't have time to check the other paperwork on her after I finished in-processing her. She's four years old and is just an angel.

I really hope she has some good relatives to go back to. It would really break my heart if she ended up in foster care. I'm not sure why she of all children got to me, but she did. I even felt bad leaving her this morning without telling her I was going, but I didn't wan't to wake her to do it.
