*rolls eyes* ...People...

As some of you might remember, the car I'm currently driving was driven for a year by the son of the man who gave it to us and used for delivering pizza. It's pretty banged up in some places. As near as I can tell, it has either been in three separate accidents or one really big one that spun the car around. I wouldn't be surprised if the driver no longer has a license.

It actually drives pretty well, with only a few exceptions. But one drawback is that some people automatically assume that the person responsible for the damage is the one driving it - or one of her teenagers.

Such as what happened earlier today when my son and I went to Walmart to get printer ink. I stayed in the car because my fibromyalgia was acting up. In my rearview mirrow, I see this older gentleman eye my car suspiciously. He walks past me, without looking me in the eyes and then leans over between our two cars and stares at the bumper.

Now, I'm confused, because I know I didn't touch his car with my bumper. I watch him shake his head, get into his car and then pull it back a few inches, before getting back out and looking at the bumper again. About this time, I'm starting to get annoyed, because I know I didn't touch his precious black Nisson. I get out of my car and state firmly that I didn't touch his car. I look down at his bumper and not seeing anything thing that could have possibly come from my bumper, I narrow my eyes and glare at him.

This whole time, the man doesn't say a word or looks me in the eye. He exaggerates his body language like an actor in a silent movie or a sad clown at the circus. He just gets back into his car and sits there. Finally, my son comes and I motion him into the car. The man looks at my son and you can almost hear his brain decide it was a teenager who must have done the damage - my son.

As I pull out, I finally see ONE dent in the man's bumper. The perfectly circluar dent on the lower half of the bumper - that can only come from a BB pellet.

I wonder if he does the wounded clown act with his neighbors too...

car, clown act
