Last Thursday the kids found two eggs in the yard. One on the lawn and one on the deck. The one found on the deck was cracked. Friday, one egg was found. Saturday nothing. Then one egg Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. It's like a freakin' Easter egg hunt around here! Most of them were left on the deck and in some way cracked. I almost swept one of them clear off the deck as I was cleaning too. All I could do was shake my head. They're finally laying, but they're screwing up. Why must I have the dumbest chickens? But they do get points for cute. One day I was sitting on the porch swing when both hens ran towards me at top speed, stopped suddenly, and then one laid an egg right there and then they both ran back to the coop. It was as if they were saying "Look Ma! Look what we can do!!" Yesterday I got two eggs and one was huge and a much darker brown than the others. Maybe a double yolker? The second was laid in the garden rather than on the wood deck, but I started getting ideas... I put a wooden egg in the nesting boxes and filled them with more shavings. Lo and behold, there was a real egg right next to it today!! Yay!! My dumb chickens continuously prove their trainability!!
So happy that my chickens are finally giving back. Now time to buy more chicks...
