MAMA MIA: "Although her training and background geared her for a life of sitting alone in a studio inhaling paint fumes, Sharon 'Mama' Spell longed for a life before an audience," says the Web site of Mama Spell, who will perform Friday night at The Garage. Spell's shows are part comedy, part rock 'n' roll and part, well, craziness. Spell sings, plays keyboard, tells funny stories ... and tap dances. Sometimes she even performs with a sock monkey. And she's got so much style that she wouldn't look out of place in a John Waters movie. As her Web site says, think Andy Kaufman with a little Liz Taylor and Ethel Merman thrown into the mix, and you've got Mama Spell. Who could resist that? Showtime is 10 p.m. and Rodie Ray will also perform. Admission is $7. Call 336-777-1127.
