About social pitfalls

This will be vague, because it is a response to a locked post from a friend. You know who you are.

Sometimes we want to click, to bond, to belong to a small subset so much that we forget our own better nature. Snarky is funny and it is reassuring and the lines between snarky and snotty and nasty-cruel are blurry. Noticing that you've started to follow someone into that pit is painful. It's embarassing. It feels like it is nothing to be proud of.

That's wrong. Catching yourself in an error of that sort and correcting is the sign of a strong character. It is a virtue to have enough humility to confess your error to yourself- doing it semi-publicly is huge.

To err is human. To see it- that's divine.

Today I am proud to know the inspiration for this post.
