my move to bat yam was the best thing that could have happened and my life there is happy and fun and satisfying. i live in the best apartment there is with 5 of my friends. it is cute, homey, wonderful, conducive to mingling, welcoming, conveniently located, smells good, and i miss it when im not there. i wake up every morning in my own house instead of a hallway with doors, walk 7 minutes to meet yoni at the bus stop, and take the 18 with him to beit sefer gordon on the border with yafo to tutor little russians in english. in the afternoon, i sleep, make lunch, eat falafel, write in my journal, or walk around the neighborhood. and at 4 as the sun is setting, i walk with beverly to matnas ofer, an afterschool moadonit, where we play with kids and help them decorate for their hanukkah party monday night. my apartment and i cook dinner together with our israeli music cds in the background and at night, my friends come over for tea, i visit them, we go together to bat yams beach or meet our hatikvah friends in tel aviv. i am surrounded by genuinely good people here who make me laugh at all times, and so many of them just want to speak hebrew! i can see who i want to see and vice versa its even better! sadly, one of my best friends here, sara, left the program sunday to study at hebrew u, but she'll be at the apartment tomorrow afternoon and turns out that absence makes the heart grow fonder! lauren and i have succesfully infiltrated the 4 tzofim here, and i cant get enough of them! on top of all that, my parents are right here, talking with my aunt and uncle after shabbat dinner. what more could i ask for?? ok, for bat yam to have wireless so that i could upload some pictures, but thats just getting greedy. i am really missing bat yam right now! i am going to take advantage of every second there this week, because i'll be with the fam for 2 straight weeks afterwards.
today i saw the movie paradise now with my parents, and if it reaches anyway in america, run to see it. it was about 2 palestinian friends who volunteered to be suicide bombers within israel. it was so striking and sad and interesting and insightful. soon i will go with my parents to register for an israeli id so that i can vote for sharon's new party kadima in the march elections. i think there needs to be an existing palestinian state in the west bank and gaza as fast as politically possibly.
fine, my sister wants to get online. cant wait to upload pictures... crossing fingers for sooner than later. see you guys either on birthright, in new orleans jan 5ish or other occasions in the future!
ps: 2 thumbs up for the nov irish eyes issue. sooo impressive! and another a+ for the yearbook, especially with erins page featuring me looking into my neighbors yard with binoculars! i had completley forgotten about that picture and almost fell out my chair laughing when i saw it! oh rhonda... <3333
