So I joined the
Feminist SF Book Swap, which is basically exactly what it sounds like. And I got a copy, direct from the author no less, of a new book called Dangerous Space by Kelley Eskridge. I must say I hadn't heard of her before, but I'm liking what I see so far.
It's a collection of short stories, almost all of them very interesting (I say "almost" because a, I haven't finished yet, and b, there was one that was too painful for me to read too closely -- I had to sort of skim through it -- but not that it was badly written; just that it pushed some buttons for me). The back cover bears a quote from Matt Ruff that reads: It takes a special talent to write about emotions this raw without embarrassing yourself. Excellent summary there. I think I shall save a detailed review for after I've finished the whole thing, which shouldn't be much longer as I'm almost done with the penultimate story.
I also joined BookMooch and so far have sent off three books to others (including one to Belgium; did you know that we USAmericans can send books to Belgium for $8?) and am expecting one in the mail shortly.
Yep, it must be summertime, because I'm reading again. I don't know why, but I always do more reading during the summer than the winter. It's just a thing. *shrug*
Some of you on my flist are doing this thing where you try to list/review 50 new-to-you books that you've read in the year. I'd do that, except that I can't remember what books I've already read this year, LOL. Well, I can remember a few, but I feel like there are more.
Read thus far this year:
* The Namesake Jhumpa Lihiri
* Locked Rooms Laurie King
* The Hallowed Hunt Lois Bujold
* Wintersmith Terry Pratchett (I think? or maybe it was December?)
* Dancing Jack Laurie Marks
* ???
I've also read Green Eggs and Ham about fifty times this year, but that probably doesn't count. ;)
