Happy Birthday Ruthie! And maybe some other stuff...

Wow, has it really been three months since I last posted? *Blush* Well, uh...hey LJ, whassup? How ya doin'?

Anyway, today is Ruthie's birthday! She is FIIIIVE years old, as she reminded us at the top of her lungs this morning while galloping exuberantly from one room to the next. At 7am. Oy. *headdesk* You know that expression, "like a herd of elephants"? Yeah, like that.

Still, one is forced to admit that Ruthie is very cute and smart and a lot of fun in many ways. She also makes me tear out my hair quite frequently, but well, that's her job I guess. It's pretty much all worth it for the funny things she says and the way she snuggles. And now she's starting to learn to read, which is awesome to see. This morning I gave her one small gift (she'll get most of her presents at the party on Saturday) and it was a book called Little Miss Birthday. (You may remember the Little Miss/Mr books from your childhood, as I do.) When she unwrapped it, she immediately knew that the first two words of the title were obviously Little Miss, because we've been reading a lot of those books lately. But then she sounded out Birthday with no trouble at all! She's so smart. <3

The other night we were driving home from preschool and I was talking about preparing to make Ruthie's birthday cake and asked her whether she was planning to help me make it, or just play while I did all the work. ;) Of course she replies, "I'll lick the bowl!" me: yeah, that'll be helpful, *eyeroll* and then she added, "And I'll clean up and wash the dishes!" That same evening, I went to chorus rehearsal leaving the kids with a babysitter, and Ruthie actually did help the babysitter wash all the dishes in our sink. The babysitter also reports that Ruthie played pretend (which she LOVES to do) and pretended that she was the mama going to chorus rehearsal. She handed her doll to the babysitter and then went into the other room and started singing. heehee!

I could go on and on about Ruthie, but that's enough for now. :) Hard to believe my fabulous baby girl is five already! That reminds me, I gotta get her kindergarten registration paperwork together. O.o

Isaac is also doing well. He recently lost his sixth tooth, and when I say he lost it, I mean that I had to pull it out, which just goes to show that parenthood forces you to confront your deepest darkest fears, illusions, hopes, dreams...okay, well, at least your biggest squicks. It turns out that I am super squeamish about loose teeth, but I managed to pull it out without freaking ;) so all's well that ends well...at least until the next loose tooth comes along.

Isaac has also (finally!) developed into an avid reader, zipping through the current popular kid books like crazy. Literally, like he'll be reading while he's sitting on the floor tying his shoes in the morning. I've actually found myself saying things like "you HAVE to stop reading now" and "Put the book down this minute," which is a new and strange sensation. ;) I guess it goes to show there's no doubt that he's my kid...! :)

This is the portion of the LJ post where I say that I'm going to start posting here regularly again, No Really, I Mean It This Time, I Swear. You believe me, right? Hello? Bueller?
