35th anniversary of Earth Day

Apr 22, 2005 16:19

Today is Earth Day,I remember when the first one was held in Madison back in 1970....I was 18 then , almost 19 years old. I was living on South Brooks Street then, and working at Madison General Hospital (still work at the hospital...only now it is called Meriter).I remember that the day was warm and sunny, unlike today which is cloudy gray with temps in the low 50's.The zoo has undergone extensive (and badly needed) renovation since that time....The old neighborhood I lived in has changed....and I've got a daughter just alittle bit older now..than I was then.I have survived another winter here in the Badger state....am looking forward to planting flowers here and down in Evansville at the cemetery.I plan on planting perennials at Evansville..possibly herbs, would like to plant a hardy Lavender for Lisa, perhaps a couple other herbs that will do well in Wisconsin climate.I want also,to plant some more flowers here at the house....would like to try Bee Balm or some other plant that will attract butterflies.I remember years ago, when we lived in Freeport,IL ,I had beautiful roses and all kinds of flowers planted in our yard.....we also had a large vegetable garden too.
