Got to just love some people in this country.
Big stink over ED ads. Thing I keep seeing people say "Oh what about the kids! I don't want to have to explain that to my kids!" Um...really. Wth are you letting your little kids watch? I've yet to see an ED add on any of the stations I allow my children to watch during times of the day when they are generally watching TV. They've occassionally come on during shows we were watching as a family, but if you don't make a big deal out of it, your kid isn't either. And if you regularly let your kids watch stuff that is adult oriented and had ED ads in the midst of it, invest in a DVR of some kind. The pause function is great.
The other thing I kept seeing was "Its so EMBARRASSING in mixed company." or " So embarrassing to see with my teens!" Um...wth? Mixed company? (yes I know what it means but can't fathom why it should be embarrassing). Aren't we all adults? Or did we suddenly get transformed in to giggling middleschoolers? To the chick with the teenagers, unless you've kept them in a box, I'm fairly sure your teens have a pretty good idea how they came to be. Might even be able to tell you a thing or two about sex if you are so bent out of shape over a commercial for a drug. Do you get embarrassed when you see an add about heart disease? Diabetes? COPD? No? Then why is it so incredibly embarassing to hear about another sort?Oh how about the bladder control stuff? Do the herpes ads bother you as well? How about the ones for tampons and maxi pads? Seriously people, grow the hell up. I got over being embarrassed about that stuff when I was a teenager. I got over being embarrassed by most everything else related to bodies and bodily functions by the birth of my first child. Really...get over it.
I personally wouldn't mind if the ads were gone, but only if all other ads for prescription medications were out as well. I don't think the ED ones are any worse than any of the rest of them, of course I don't exactly have a Victorian view of sex either that those who are having these reactions to the ads apparently have.
Citizens of the US...sex is not evil. Sex is not a bad word. Sex and talking about sex isn't embarrassing (or at least shouldn't be). Let the lawmakers spend their time on something that is actually going to BETTER our country instead of something that just enforces one of the darker and more idiotic aspects of our country.
(and really, who just sits and watches the commercials anyway? Waste of time! Get up and go pee, get a drink, get a snack etc. I almost NEVER watch the commercials even when I don't use the TIVO. Rare exception is the Super Bowl...when the only thing I do watch is the commercials. hah.)
