School was over and I was doing work in my classroom. I was listening to music while I graded papers, made charts, and put the chairs up on the tables. Morales was working in the adjoining classroom and came over to ask about rubrics or something. When she walked in the room she commented on the music and said, “Who is this? Judy Garland? Liza Minelli?”
Indignant, I said, “Oh my God! I can’t believe you! Do you just live your life trying to figure people out according to stereotypes?”
Unfazed, and still trying to get the answer to her question, she said, “Well who is it?!”
I hung my head a little and muttered, “Barbra Streisand.”
