I'm starting my reviews the second week. I always give a show at least two episodes to pull me in. (Except for Person of Interest, which had me hooked in 15 minutes. But we'll talk about that on Thursday)
This is what I decided to watch on Monday Nights
How I Met Your Mother - CBS - 8:00pm
2 Broke Girls - CBS - 8:30pm
Two and A Half Men - CBS - 9:00pm
I've never liked Mike and Molly, so I didn't watch it.
How I Met Your Mother
I've always enjoyed this show. You can pick it up at any time and almost never be lost. Thought the premise is starting to grate. There can't be many more years of this show. I'm kinda getting sick of the Ted/Robin crap though. I 'm excited that Lily is pregnant. And I loved the episode last this last Monday about her boobs. I laughed so hard.
Result: Will continue to watch, but I won't be sad if I miss an episode or if I decide to watch something or do something else for the half hour.
2 Broke Girls
This was one of the new shows I was so excited about. And it is as funny as I expected. I like that they give the total of money the girls have at the end of the episode. I also like that they didn't make the rich blonde chick stupid. She is actually pretty smart. Sure, she may have some boundary issues and there may be some societal issues. But she is actually smart, caring, and likeable. I don't like to hate her, I like to like her.
Kat Dennings is one of my favorite actresses. I love her sarcasm. And, I'll be honest, she has a great rack.
Result: Can't wait to watch more. I'll try my hardest to not miss an episode and I don't want to do anything else during this time slot. I hope it survives.
Two and A Half Men
I was skeptical about Ashton and no Charlie Sheen. But I was pleasantly surprised. I love love love that they implied that Rose killed Charlie! And I'm loving that they've seem to decide that Ashton should never wear a shirt. This was a good choice. It'll be interesting to see how they work Walden trying to get his wife back into the show.
Sometimes the sex and "Alan is a child" jokes get repetitive and old.
Result: Slightly reserved. I think Ashton was a good choice. I like him in the show. But the repetitiveness might keep me away. I'll watch it because there is nothing else in the time slot that interests me. Hopefully it will improve over this year.
Tuesday Nights
NCIS - CBS - 8:00pm
The New Girl - Fox - 9:00pm
Raising Hope - Fox - 9:30pm
Unforgettable - CBS - 10:00pm
NCIS
A lot of you know that I've had issues with this show. As in content and summoning the will to watch. But I was super annoyed at Glee, so I decided to not watch it this season and give NCIS another try. I did give up moderator/maintainer responsibilities for the
navy-ncis comm. I think I may be able to enjoy the show more now.
I've been angry at the creators for awhile now. The whole Tiva thing really screwed with the show and the fans. I am a Tiva fan. I'm a Gibbs/DiNozzo fan. I'm a Kibbs fan. I'm a Kate/Ari fan. But only in fanfic. I think the show itself works better without romance between the main characters. I hate that they're making McGee into a pansy. And Gibbs has seemed super distant and not at all Gibbs like.
I watched the full episode last night. And I enjoyed it. For the most part. They're still doing somethings that piss me off. McGee stuff and Tiva stuff. But I loved the end how Gibbs talked to Tony. My inner NCIS lover perked her little head up and said, "Ahh there we are. The real Gibbs and DiNozzo have made an appearance for half a second."
The plot itself was interesting and engaging. There was a mystery, though I think the writers/creators did the stretching thing to get NCIS involved. I'd like to see a major return to plots that have more to do with the Navy.
Result: I'm cautiously optimistic for this new season. I will not participate in fandom this year. The extremists in both the Tiva and Non-Tiva camps have ruined fandom for me. I will try my hardest to watch an episode, but I will not be completely rearranging my life so I can watch like I have in the past.
The New Girl
I was so excited about this show in the beginning. Mostly because of Zooey Deschanel. The first episode was kinda iffy. The second one I wasn't able to watch all the way through and I wasn't sad that I missed it. It's not as funny as I expected. It's kinda annoying, especially the singing.
Result: I will not be continuing to watch it. Even if nothing else is on. It's that disappointing and annoying.
Raising Hope
OMG!! Hope is so big!! I love this show. It's so funny. And cute. It's kinda like HIMYM though. You can miss an episode and not be lost.
Result: Will continue to watch, but I won't be sad if I miss an episode or if I decide to watch something or do something else for the half hour.
Unforgettable
Dear God in Heaven, do I love this show. Everything about it is amazing. Poppy Montgomery is amazing. We've seen a couple of these shows in the recent past. Monk, Psych, and the Mentalist are a few. This one is slightly different, in that she can't actually forget anything. And I love how they have her "watch" herself to go back over what she's seen to get new clues and info.
The backstory of her not being able to remember what happened with her sister is good. If slightly typical. It's a plot device that they need in case they want to end the show or for when they do actually end the show. Find the "BIG BAD GUY" and we have closure and the show can end. Monk had one and it ended after the BBG was found. The Mentalist has one, and they faked you out last year when you thought he had killed Red John and you found out in the premiere that he didn't think it was Red John after all. So the show can continue. (but we'll get to that later this week)
Result: Can't wait to watch. Will try my absolute hardest to never miss an episode and may rearrange my schedule so as to not miss an episode.
That's it for the first two days. I do have shows I'll watch on Wednesday and Thursday. But Friday through Sunday are no Primetime TV nights for me.
