we are friends, aren't we, coily?

Who do I have to skullfuck to get a nice pair of wide-leg jeans in this city?! I found three lovely vintage pairs the other day, but naturally my hips defeated them. I managed to squeeze em on up, and you could close them at the waist, but my hips made actually zipping them up impossible. I was very sad - one of them had fucking anchor buttons! Apparently Banana Republic carries a trouser jean, so I may have to go there. (Seriously, Vancouver, you're a pretty big city. You hosted the Olympics. You're all grown up now. So can we PLEASE stop with the jeggings and skinny jeans? We don't all live on Commercial Drive and live off of ramen and vegan kraft dinner that makes us shit out our intestines on a daily basis so that we all top the scales at 100lbs only by wearing Docs*. More importantly, STOP WEARING UGGS OH MY JESUS EFFING CHRIST.)

* - I weirdly don't hate hipsters. I work with some lovely ones, and they DO look great in skinny jeans. I however am not a hipster, and am also approaching 30, and while I do own a pair of skinnies finding a pair that fit and didn't make me look like blood sausage was a challenge. I've seen some women larger than me rock the jeggings with the proper top, but my point is a little fucking variety would be nice.

I do not associate with anyone who wears Uggs, however.

Best Friend:

(Besides my sister, obviously.)
My best friend's name is Diana. I have known Di since high school, when we were in the same nerdy English classes together. We were introduced by a mutual friend, and while in high school proper we didn't actually hang out much until senior year because for some reason I was always eating lunch with the band geeks. (In retrospect I like to think I was studying them, but the sad truth is it simply never occurred to me to flee the ridiculous drama for... different ridiculous drama.)

Simply put, Diana is the nicest human being on earth. So of course the question you all have is "then why are you FRIENDS?" (You bastards. Although back in high school Diana's little sister actually pretty much voiced that opinion; after seeing me for the first time Kim looked to Di and said, "you're friends with THAT girl?!" This is something we bugged her about years later when she briefly became goth!Kim. Anyway, I digress.)

Diana and I share, more than common interests, common views on life in general. She is the only human being with who I have had a serious argument with so rarely that said arguments are considered to be much like rare astrological events. Great Conjuctions or some shit. We've literally had two heated arguments. The first was, "who was the black dude in Event Horizon?" - which I won. The second neither of us remembers, we just know SHE won and the fact that we can't remember what it was drives her insane. She is, to date, the only person besides my sister who I can live with without murdering.

Diana is ridiculously competitive, insanely generous, and unlike me likes children enough to teach them for a living. When we lived together this was awesome because around holidays or the end of the school year Diana would come home with a load of crap from the kids. Some of this was awesome, like Starbucks gift cards that the parents picked out or candy, and some of it was mind-blowingly horrible, which actually sort of made it better. The best was the fish. This kid/parent gave her a decorative copper fish with like, marbles for eyes and hanging off of the damn thing's belly. It was hideous, so naturally we hung it in the kitchen window. I'm pretty certain she still has it, and if I remember I'll get a picture of it.

Di has been my rock for over ten years now. We stayed close when she went up to UNBC, staying in touch through her epic e-mails chronicling life on campus, and again via e-mail when I moved to Dublin. We've been there for each other through deaths, illnesses, jackasses, and all the other shit life throws at you. I could not wish for a better friend, and I don't care that I sound like a fucking Hallmark card.

She fell down the stairs on her birthday once because she was rushing down to listen to Robbie Williams. That's my girl!
