Halloween Spooktacular: It Has Begun.

It's October first, boils and ghouls.

I haven't even had coffee yet - I'm sitting here in a plaid flannel shirt that I stole from a lumberjack to use as sleepwear with Robert Smith hair, listening to Bing Crosby sing about the Headless Horseman. Why? Because I love you.

Ireland is not big on Halloween. This means that you can't just stroll down to the local department store and buy styrofoam headstones, and so this year linax and I are making even MORE crap than we usually do. And if you guessed that family craft night started last night, you'd be right.

One of the easiest and cheapest Halloween decorations you can make are black paper silhouettes for the window. Even Martha Stewart agrees. "I can't draw, Mandy," you might be whining. Shut the fuck up, I have something for you:

ZOMBIE HANDS!

Remember how in grade school they made you trace your hand to make a turkey out of it every Thanksgiving? Just do that on black paper. Minus the turkey additions. Do it a few times, varying how high or low your hands are, and then cut them out. Tape them to a window, preferably higher up, and there you go: legions of the undead trying to get in/out of the house.

I wanted a biohazard sign, but those things are fucking hard to cut out, so we made a toxic one instead. Just in case somebody didn't get it.

And then you get your dumbest relative to pretend the zombies are yanking the door open.

So, last night we watched Deadlands: The Rising which sucked. Really, really sucked. It was notable only for having the largest number of chubby zombies we're ever seen in a film, which I guess if a Zombie Apocalypse really did occur in middle America would be very realistic. Anyway. One of the special features on the DVD was a short British film that, while extremely poor quality, had some pretty funny moments.
I am Zombie Man.

Next is one of my new favourite Halloween songs (Pete! this is the one I was telling you and Shawna about at the Voodoo Lounge), "Halloween" by Stephen Lynch. I tried to find a download, but couldn't. Or am too lazy to really search.
