"send more paramedics."

After spending most of the day in the Immigration office, linax and I went to the comic store where we bought the September issue of Rue Morgue. (My all-time favourite magazine.) Know what was one the cover? The Tarman.

You're either going, "bitch, YEAH!" or "who?" right now.

Here's a hint: do you wanna PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARTY?!

No?

Here (the sound isn't great, but whatever):

Bitch. Yeah.

I consider Return of the Living Dead one of the best zombie films ever made. And trust me, I've seen my fair share of zombie movies. (All the Romero films, obviously, but also Fulci's, as well as assorted other films like Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, which I hear is scheduled to be remade. Oy.) And now they are releasing a collector's edition! That's awesome news.

Why does this movie kick so much ass? Simple: it's funny. Really, really funny. It has all the gore of your regular zombie flick, as well as some great gratuitous nudity (the infamous graveyard striptease, for starters) and monsters who actually think. It wasn't until Land of the Dead that Romero's zombies really got the hang of using tools and shit thanks to Zombie!Moses - the zombies in Return knew how to trick cops and paramedics from the get-go. They also moved fast, years before 28 Days Later. They were pretty much just all-around kickass monsters, especially in the 80s.

But above all: funny fucking movie. It's like an EC comic on laughing gas.

As a side note: horror films introduced me to the Cramps - both Return and Near Dark feature songs by the band, although they're very different in tone. (Any Halloween soundtrack without The Surfin' Dead on it is NOT a Halloween soundtrack.)

zombies, movies
