Alien Abduction

My cat was abducted. I woke up this morning and could not find her in her usual haunts in the living room. I expanded my search to the dining room and then the utility room where her food, water and litter box are kept. No kitty. Finally, I returned to the living room and looked behind one of the couches. There she was...in the most out of the way spot that she could manage. Hmm. Maybe she had seen the cat carrier that I had borrowed from our neighbors.

When it was close to time to take her to her vet appointment, we made the extraction. There was a lot of junk being stored in the alleyway between the couch and the front window. I was able to squeeze back there and scoop Claws up. Chris helped to steady the carrier and soon had her imprisoned. She didn’t fight us much at all. In the past, she has always been very adamant about not being put into a carrier.

We took her to the vet because her condition had been worrying us and because it was conveniently enough time for her yearly appointment anyway. The vet checked her over and asked us questions. Yes, she has been eating and drinking. No, she hasn’t been drinking too much (we try to limit her to water anyway...booze can be a bit expensive). Yes, she has been eliminating appropriately. No, she hasn’t been going to the litter box to pee frequently. The vet listened to her heartbeat, her lungs and felt her all over. Much to her dismay, he took her temperature. She was given her shots. We brought up the idea that maybe she had fallen while dismounting from the couch. It seemed fairly plausible since her problem had a sudden onset and she has shown improvement over the past few days. The vet poked and prodded along her spine with an instrument and from what he could determine in her responses, this was a most likely hypothesis. So, we decided not to do any blood tests or anything on her to investigate further.

Chris and I are to keep an eye on her, let her rest and such. If she doesn’t improve, then we can bring her back to have blood drawn. From what the vet could tell from the examination and our answers to his questions, it was not likely that she was suffering from kidney or liver problems or diabetes. So, that is good. I hate seeing her unwell, but if it’s just a slipped disc from getting off the couch, that’s not so bad. We’re just going to have to build her a kitty ramp up onto the couch.
