Right, so last weekend the Plague Bearer visited my humble home in the guise of my boyfriend, Chris. Earlier last week, he had been suffering from a sore throat with no other symptoms (such as runny nose or coughing). Maybe his eyes were puffy and sore at one point, and some time during his weekend stay with me, he found that his tongue was a bit swollen. Sure, come on out to my house with your freaking plague, because obviously I am invincible.
On Wednesday morning, I woke up with a feeling that my throat had been stuffed with cotton that had been soaked in a substance that caused my throat to feel numb and puffy. Upon closer inspection, there was no cotton stuffing in my throat. I seemed to be coming down with the plague that Chris had been carrying. Lucky me. He spent Friday through to 5am Tuesday morning with me. Presumably, there was no escape for me. I could not avoid this plague.
I will have to admit that being faced with illness does not appeal to me, especially since I live alone (most of the time) and do not have health insurance. After considering my predicament on Wednesday morning, I decided that I would leave a message at Chris' house for him to call me when he got home from work. Granted, I knew that I could easily have waited until around 3pm to call him, but that would not have afforded me the opportunity to chitchat with his dear mother about Chris' condition and the fact that I had done some research online and thought that his ailment could be strep throat, but we would not know for certain until he visited a doctor. His mother is a maternity nurse and cannot afford to be sick, so she agreed that Chris should see a doctor.
If Chris was an average male, then my strategy of allying with his mother might have proven useful. Alas, dear Chris is smarter than the average bear and such ingenious nagging strategies have little to no effect on him. He stated that he found my tactic amusing when his mother told him that afternoon that I had called.
After a lengthy discussion, Chris did decide to visit his doctor on Thursday and called out from work on Thursday and Friday. It seemed like the best idea, as he does come into contact with a lot of students and some of them are not in the best of health to begin with and should not have to attempt to ward off this contagion from Chris. His doctor did not think that it was strep throat, but he did take a culture. We will not know any results from it for a few days, though.
Meanwhile, the contagion has not been too ruthless on me. Wednesday’s throat issues were a bit aggravating. On Thursday, I felt mostly fine but the left side of my throat felt a little puffy and odd. Today my throat is more or less fine, but my left eye is a bit puffy and sore.
Wheee. I should refuse the boy access to my house when he is a plague bearer. Nothing good can come of any viruses or bacteria that have been processed through his nefarious system.
