But since I don't have one I'll use Kima as she looks decisive.
* I was on the way to buy a laptop today but my car won't start. The starter motor seems to have given up the ghost. My dad and I tinkered around with it and thankfully this time he doesn't feel the need to repair it himself. Dad it's been a lifetime since you worked on engines and those weren't cars either so lets leave it to the hands of the 'professionals'.
* I decided to buy a laptop that costs $499.00 instead of the expensive Dell or Thinkpad. That way if it breaks, is stolen etc.. I won't be crushed as much. I will buy a good external hd so backing up stuff won't be too hard.
* George Orwell wrote an essay called
Confessions of a Book Reviewer about what the working life is like for someone who does that job. It's a good read.
A couple of years
Slate wrote an article about the problems with professional book reviewers. This was right after Bill Clinton released his memoirs. The day after it came out there were full reviews in various papers etc... The author of the article was wondering how someone could really read an entire 1000+ page book in less than a day, write a proper article and still get it in under deadline. Hmm.... Most reviewers don't read the whole books, they skim it and then bash out an article. This is why I'll never want to do it as a job. I would like to read a book completely before giving a review.
* My favourite comic book series 100 Bullets wrapped up it's 100 issue/10 year run a few weeks ago. It is quite the accomplishment to have the same author, artist, cover artist for all 100 issues. The lady who colours the comics is the wife of the author as well. I am going to make a post about the awesome cover art later. As other fields like CD's are toning down cover art, comics seem to be breaking new ground.
One my favourite covers:
* I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.
