It's almost July and I haven't had to turn on the AC yet. With energy prices being what they are this is definitely good news. We're still recovering from the heating costs from the winter that would never end. So here's a dancing banana to show my joy.
~o~
So my friend Mrssnape1414, asked for a tv rec. And I thought of Dexter but she already watches that. I thought of House and ditto. I thought of Nip/Tuck but realistically I stopped watching that show after the first season and even though that was one of the best set of episodes I have ever watched I can't really rec a show if I don't like it anymore.
In terms of comedies I would definitely rec My Name is Earl. I haven't watched a bad episode. I slacked off and didn't watch much of this season, mainly because I hate using my pvr and I would tape stuff and just never want to sit down and watch it.
Anyways there is one show that I thought of that I like and I have bought all the dvds that I haven't mentioned.
Now this is a show that well is tough to sell. Because on the surface, you just roll your eyes when you look at it. When the show first started years ago, there was no one famous on it. And really none of the original actors have gone on to huge success outside, well the main actor had a supporting role in two movies but no one is beating down his door for another movie.
If you read a synopsis of the first season, you would be excused if you feel deja vu. As in, "Gee didn't I see this same storyline in like a dozen movies?" And yeah, you would be right.
Well to a point.
This show set the record for emmy nominations in its first season as a show on basic cable (fx network), winning best actor. It's gotten better with every season and kinda peaked in season four and five when Glen Close (Season 4) and Forrest Whitaker (Season 5) guest starred as major recurring characters.
The acting in this show is better than any other cop show out there (well except 'the wire') and comparing the acting to shows like csi miami (I'm not trying to bash anyone, I'm just saying) is apples and oranges. And at the same time it's different than a show like the wire because it's not so cerebral. There is an abundance of action in it as well so it isn't dull.
The show is "The Shield."
I couldn't find a promo video/trailer for the first season (it came out in 2002) but here is the promo for the season 3. NO spoilers in it but it gives you an idea of what the show is about.
