Glimpses of the future through mirrorshades

The members of our team with a laptop needed mains power at the top of the tower and so they started poking about in a filthy and rather haphazardly installed equipment cabinet looking for something to plug into while I watched from the other side of the chamber (with my battery powered equipment). It contained routers from the dawn of time that made fizzling noises when you poked them and flashed unhappy lights at you (half the campus was probably wondering where their wifi had gone) and I briefly glimpsed the future that could have been: in an out of bounds area in a dusty old building men in leather jackets were carefully teasing computer systems apart so that they could find a physical connection to jack in to.

Possibly you had to be there...

My other thought was that when I live in a tall wizard's tower (with or without a long flowing beard and pointy hat), I shall install a lift. 324 steps is a long way up.
