The question, dear Reader, is not if there is a design flaw in our laundry room, it's which is the largest offender causing the problem. Whether it's in the building of a sloped backroom, the lack of stable platform for the washer and dryer, the small cupboard, or perhaps the fatal flaw is in the half threading on the air vent for the giant dispenser bottle of detergent. Whichever it is, they all worked together for ill.
When I arrived home with my brand new bottle of detergent last night, I found that the cupboard had been rearranged, my old bottle thrown out, and several bottles of my roommates' were taking it's place. As there was no longer room for my detergent, I set it on the dryer. It's a small narrow room, so to stick it on the floor would have meant tripping over it and stubbing toes.
After work this afternoon, I started up a load of laundry then went off to do some other chores around the house. All was right with the world until the dreaded heavy THUMP. The unbalanced washer vibrated the giant bottle of All Free and Clear off of the dryer and onto the floor where the air vent cap popped off and all 92 loads-worth of detergent spilled everywhere it could reach.
I don't know which of these was the largest problem, but the end result is the same. By tonight, we're going to have the cleanest laundry room in all of Oklahoma, and I will still need to get detergent to wash my interview pants.
