LJ Idol - Week 8 - A Traveling Travesty

Dec 15, 2011 02:31

As I, myself, am driven by a burning need, so I drive them out of their hiding places. Once one of the most cherished of creatures, now man believes them to be a myth. I've searched and hunted far and wide to round up every last one of the pure ones. Now they are cowering in the foam on the crest of the waves that beat the shoreline. I have doomed them to never again know the maidens' reverent touch or the wholeness of being that they find in a sun-drenched gallop across the meadow.

Why should they be loved, venerated, and revered when I am hated, feared, and despised? It was not my doing that called me up from the depths, and it was not my jealousy, selfishness, and rage that set me to my task and my mission. Their purity is a mockery of all that I am. The serene nature of the one-horned ones derides my own fiery existence.

On I go, down long and hard roads. I travel in search of the one that eludes me. While there is even a single unicorn in the world, I am not permitted to rest. I know she is out there. I've seen her once-The Last of Her Kind. I must find her; I must rout her out.  Perhaps then I will be allowed to stand down, and return whence I came.
