I've now worked three days at Subway. I think the best part of working at Subway, so far, is Ev telling me to take all of my complaints and questions to the Burger King. And then cursing me for not actually working at Burger King and at a place with no real mascot.
The first two days were 2-5 shifts and it was fairly slow for most of the time. So, we got an almost steady stream of customers, but never really a line, and it was fairly easy for me to get the hang of the sammich line and make the different kinds of sammiches and deal with customers and clean and all that other shit none of you care about. But I feel the need to talk about it, because I'm doing it. And this is my journal. So fuck you for not caring!!
Right. Anyway.
It was fairly easy and I'm fast on my feet and the second day, my manager was already complimenting me on being the best trainee and making it easier for her and how I just jumped right into the line with no confusion and whatnot. Worked with a lot of the people. Don't hate anyone. One of the trainees I worked with both of my 2-5 shifts is annoying and still stuck in high school, even though she's not actually in high school anymore. And my manager, Debbie, while a good manager and easy to work with, tells inappropriate stories about drinking and driving and being a complete lush and loser with her children. But when it's just about work, she's the best lady to have there. Great manager. But the other girl, whose name I haven't gotten quite yet, the trainee, she sits there and talks to me about all the "bitches" who want to kick her ass for stealing their boyfriends and the "mad people up in Ludlow" who want to kill her and how the people I hang out with and me are damn "preps" and she just can't be seen with that crowd and blah blah blah blah. One of those. I mainly ignore her.
Actually, the most annoying thing about her is the fact that she still doesn't know half of the sandwiches or anything about the clean up around the line, but insists on pushing ahead of me when a customer comes in, because she doesn't like the manager complimenting me and not her. Then she fucks up the order and I'm left to clean up whatever mess she's made. Then, on Friday, I made a mistake with one of the phone orders (made one too many sandwiches) and Debbie was out of the store for a moment. I put the sandwich aside and waited for her to come back, before tossing it. I marked down what kind of bread it was on, like we're supposed to, and moved on. The girl, however, thought this was the most delicious thing ever. "I TOLD YOU!! I TOLD YOU THERE WERE TOO MANY SANDWICHES! DAMN, I SO TOLD YOU." And so on and so forth. And then, of course, as soon as Debbie walks in, the girl is running to her, like pushing over old ladies and whatnot to get to Debbie as soon as possible :p and telling her how I screwed up so bad. Blah blah blah. And then she's watching as Debbie asks me what happened, I tell her, Debbie says "alright." tosses the sandwich away and moves on with her business. The girl seemed to think I was going to be FIRED and sent to hell for my horrible misdemeanor. She sulked off, highly disappointed with what actually happened, and continued on her "Let's annoy Malorie" crusade. Okay, I don't have that big of an ego. She wants to annoy EVERYONE around her, I'm sure.
Anyway, today, I worked 12-3 and it was busy as hell. I walked in there and the line was almost to the door. And I just jumped into the line, nervous and a bit awkward about where I should be and what I should be doing, with four other people working it. I ended up getting put where the veggies were, after a while, and it was alright. But my hands were shaking the whole time, trying to do everything right and do everything as quickly as the rest of the employees were in the line. It died off after an hour and half or so, but it was pretty cool. The time moved by fast, I caught on quickly and it was good to get some experience under pressure like that. I still can't ring people out, which is annoying at times, but I can do everything else at this point. So, yay. And I worked with two girls who had been working there for a while, and not the annoying trainee I'd been working with before, as well as Debbie. So, it was a good day.
Plus, we get a free 6 inch sub if we work under 4 hours and a footlong if we work over that. And all the drinks we want, while working. Pretty sweet.
I have to go back there at 6 tonight, for a 15-minute meeting, that was put together last minute. A bit irritating, but meh, whatever. I'm sure whatever they have to tell us will make it worth it. ::scoff::
And now I'm watching the South Park musical with Ev, which is happifying.
And also on the job front, I got a call from Old Navy and they want me to come in for an interview. The interview will be on Friday. If they can promise me full-time, I'll quit the job at Subway and work there. Full-time is delicious.
And, of course, I'm still holding out for Ruby Tuesdays, which doesn't start hiring until the end of September. Waitressing and tips and full-time and Yay! ::Crosses fingers::
-Cupcake out
P.S. Ev got a new bed, so I get to sleep on the couch full-time now, instead of the reclining chair. Hooray! I'm still not sleeping well or at all, most nights, but it's nice to be a bit more comfortable and not have cricks in my neck, now. :)
P.P.S. Ev is reading this over my shoulder and just made a lewd joke about me joining him down here if the couch isn't good enough for me.
I just wanted to share. :D
P.P.P.S. I also have to wear my hair up at Subway, which is a pain in the ass. Stupid people not wanting hair in their food. :p
P.P.P.P.S. Ev wonders if I can break the world record for P.S.s in an LJ entry. I wonder if I have yet.
P.P.P.P.P.S. I threw a burrito at him and then he kicked him!
Where are you Ron?
I AM IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION!!!
P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Okay, I'm done.
P.P.P.P.P.P.P.S. I'm still watching you, Joel. Where's the fucking trailer with some actual singing, huh?!
