World Champ Sox, Stupid Sportscasters from Fox, and Pacers' Mark Boyle Rocks

Oct 27, 2005 00:09

Congrats to the Chicago White Sox on winning the 2005 World Series.  That's one more long-suffering team that has some relief (Cubs and Indians, you're next).  That means one less team that Fox can put stupid graphics up about, detailing what changes have occurred since they last won a title.  I'm really getting sick of those.

Speaking of Fox ... alright, I get it.  The umps made some bad calls.  Big deal, that happens in just about every game of the season.  You know why?  Cause they are human.  The ballplayers make mistakes too.  And so do the broadcasters.  If you aren't aware of that, just listen to Tim "The thing about ground balls is sometimes they go out of the ballpark" McCarver.  I just got so tired of every single call being scrutinized, zoomed in, overanalyzed, so much so that I couldn't watch a single World Series game straight through without muting or changing the channel.  As soon as Fox stops running endless promos for "Prison Break", and putting their network stars in the crowd for not-so-random crowd shots, then maybe I'll change my mind about instant replay.  I think we all know that's about as likely as me becoming a woman.

One of the times I changed channels, I happened to catch an NBA Preseason game between the Pacers and Bobcats.  This is why I love DirecTV ... free NBA Preseason games from all over the league.  Anycrap, the best thing about this is sometimes they show games which are the direct feed from the arena mixed with one of the team's radio networks.  This means no commercials, and more cheerleader shots.  Such was the case with the Pacers-Bobcats game.

Let me say two things about the game.

First, I had no idea there were so many hot single moms in Charlotte.  I'm serious, it seemed like every crowd shot had MILFs with no wedding rings.  JJ you should move there.  Tell them you can get them into movies and you are in, my friend.

Second, for some reason the microphone of Mark Boyle never was turned off, even during the commercials.  This made for some of the best comedic television I can recall in a while.  For example, Mark Boyle loves to do karaoke during the commercial breaks.  He was singing along to all the music being played in the arena.  I can now say I heard a C&C Music Factory/Mark Boyle Mashup of "Gonna Make You Sweat."  Solid Gold.  Also, he mentioned that he played clarinet in high school.  He said, "Benny Goodman and I had the same skillset.  Only difference is that he's dead."  Wow.  Just wow.

Well, that shall do it.  With visions of Mark Boyle going on tour to promote his debut album "Songs from Slick Leonard Boulevard", I bid you Peace Out Bitches.
