This past weekend I made a trip. After three years of relative isolation (only broken occasionally by these flimsy internet connections) from my good friends from SCAD, I took a trip to the state of Minnesota to visit some of them. The location of the corporate headquarters of Target, Minneapolis provided the perfect opportunity to see four of my best pals in one go. I was stoked. The weird thing is just how quickly my brain adapted to this situation. By the second or third day it seemed as though we had never parted. I had a great time, but there is a down side to everything in life. The days including and after my return home became fraught with loneliness and depression, to the point of almost making myself physically ill. My head became filled with all the reasons why my permanent state of residence was inferior and I couldn't be happy in my current life situation. My only solace was a marathon viewing of Scrubs episodes. But, fortunately this didn't last long. Yesterday was my first day back to work. Now, in no circumstance is a $10 an hour retail job the ideal way to spend your time, and the day was filled with the usual annoyances, but its a great way to get your mind off bigger things. After only a few hours I got back into the groove, and life feels just about like it did before my trip. It seems to have been just what my fickle brain needed.
