So I've been pretty into The Go! Team lately and I think to myself, Man, I wish I had that record, because it's a good record. But I know Wazoo doesn't have it so I decide to order it off of their record label's website (their British record label). So my order comes up for 12 pounds and I figure that's probably fifteen dollars, which is a little ( Read more... )

I will definitely give them a listen.

I don't know if you like xiu xiu at all, but if you get a chance, you should listen to their cover of tracy chapman's "fast car" because I think it's really fantastic.

thanks! next up will be one about a trumpet.

I am in such a good mood! If you'd like, I could burn you a copy and mail it to you. I've been waking up to it every morning and have yet to share the goodness with anyone, so I would be happy to. I have a xiu xiu cd actually, the one with the boy in the underwear kneeling on the cover that I forget the title of, and I do like it, especially the song where Jamie sings 'driving in your car, i am your girl and i will protect you'
I like how nervous and crazy the sounds become throughout it. I will try to download that cover, thanks!

I look forward to it. What's your favorite instrument? I vote banjos and saxophones.

I tried to download some of their songs but it didn't work so i would be pretty excited if you burned it for me! if you want, i promise to make some sort of return gift. it'll be fun. is it okay if i just e-mail you my address?

some people organized this mountain roots music sort of thing here at school and it's going to be outside in the middle of campus and people are supposed to wear farmer's or appalachian sort of clothes and bring banjos and musical saws and mandolins and all kinds of instruments and people are just going to jam, i guess. I don't know how to play any of those (although i'm trying to build a bow so i can learn to play saw!) but i'm totally going to go watch and dress up for it.

anyway, i guess i don't really have a favorite instrument. i like high-pitched things, like piccolos and flutes and stuff.

do you play any instruments?
i only play guitar and sometimes i blow into my roommate's trumpet when i feel like being extra noisy.

I'm glad you're in a good mood!

okay! yes you can send it to juliathereseburns@hotmail.com

ahhh, that's so rad! i wish people at my college did amazing things like that. you should definitely learn to play saw!!

i like the word piccolo

i took piano lessons for 7 years but haven't played consistently since junior high so i'm pretty rusty but i'd like to learn again, i love to sing, i own an acoustic guitar but can't really play it and have owned it for longer than i'd like to admit, and playing the drums is so fun but i haven't had much practice lately. i'd like to learn the harmonica, banjo, and mandolin. and i think it's high time i bought a tambourine and set of hand drums.

have you ever seen harold and maude?? (i assume you have but if not rent it immediately) i love the scene of harold playing the banjo on the mountaintop. i'd really like to see more hal ashby films. i watched a documentary a few weeks ago called "a decade under the influence" about films from the seventies and what inspired them and the segment on him really intrigued/warmed me.

if you head towards pennsylvania again this year you should maybe let me know because i think you would be fun to hang out with.

and thanks!
