So. Enough about me. What about you?

I've spent way too much time being cranky over the last couple of days. Do not want. Time to get out of my own head, if it's going to be such an unpleasant place ( Read more... )

How ironic would it be if I suddenly fell for it NOW, when everyone I know who loved it has moved on?

I only just got into Buffy, after years of resistance. I am most definitely not going to ram it down your throat though!

The interesting thing I've noticed is that the fandom is still very much alive. I think it was big enough at the time that when most of it fell off, there were still a good number of die hards hanging in there. Also I guess there's people like me who came to it late.

The hardest thing about coming to closed canon years after its heyday is staying unspoiled. You spend a lot of time telling people very loudly NO SPOILERS!!! I managed OK though, except for one or two things that slipped through.

I've seen just enough of the first season (maybe 4 eps) to know that I'd like Willow best, and I would mostly not care much about Buffy.

I never cared much for Buffy. It's the supporting characters that I really love. Willow is AWESOME.

I know myself well enough to know that I'd become obsessed with Giles, and I'd want to read smut with him in it, but the stock of characters to get him to play with is mostly a group of teenagers, and that squicks me beyond belief.

Actually the only Giles-smut that I've come across has been him paired with other characters his age. They are very minor characters though, because as you say the big characters are teenagers. There may be loads of stuff with him paired with the kids (bleeeurgh) but I have not looked and therefore have not found.

Sorry. will stop talking about stuff you are mostly likely not interested in now!

There's some fantastic Giles slash out there. Wesley, Ethan, Spike. Yummy.

Or if you like het, go here and be blown away by some of the best storytelling you'll ever read in any fandom.

Hmmm, interesting. I love Giles, but don't know if I want to read porn about him. Except maybe with Spike...

PERFECT ICON. *g*

Well... that het series I linked you to is way more plot than ship. There's a very cool (and not at all MarySueish) OFC that he meets and hooks up with, but she's not in all of the stories. It's mostly just Giles in England, living a life away from the other BtVS characters but still being a Watcher and being angsty and making the hard choices and being incredibly awesome. *flails with love*

That's a good recommendation, I'll add it to my list of things to read! I'm not hugely into angst, but if there's a point to it, and other elements of awesomeness involved, I'm there.

Drenched in awesomeness. I think that "127 Fountain Street", the second fic in the series, still ranks as the best story I've ever read in any fandom.

Oh, and the Giles/Spike... here's my favorite:

Paving Stones Series by mpoetess and wolfling. There's a bit of kink, but it's not gratuitous. It's all about the two of them after the end of S5, trying to find ways to survive the grief and loss. Really powerful stuff. And hot as hell.

I like a bit of kink, as long as it doesn't veer into non-con. I'll definitely check that one out, thanks.
