I have been on hold waiting to speak with someone in Large California County Red Tape Department for almost 30 minutes. I firmly believe that I will be here until I die. Accruing long distance charges all the while. (I picked a poor time to forget to recharge my cell phone.)
But my call is important to them, and they would really like it if I'd continue to hold. I can't possibly doubt it, because they interrupt the insipid and painfully repetitive Muzak every 45 seconds to tell me so. No, really. I timed it. (It's not like I have anything else to do.)
Anyone who inflicts insipid and painfully repetitive hold Muzak upon their hapless clientele should be forced to listen to it ALL DAY LONG, complete with equally annoying "please continue to hold" interruptions. It should be a law.
ETA: DONE. Had to go through this nonsense with TWO different counties, but I got the dates. *massive sigh of relief*
