There's a Robert Heinlein quote that goes something like: "Whenever you do not see a situation you do not understand, look for the financial interest

I almost bought a perm account last time, but just didn't have the funds. Really don't now either, but was thinking about splurging on an early b'day present for myself.
The LJ comm has been great for keeping up with other fen, and I've recently been adding a lot of syndicated content to my flist so I can follow fandom, news and more all in one space. But I can still do that with a free account, I just don't have as many pretty pictures.
I'm hoping that 6A takes a big enough hit in the wallet over this that they'll rethink hard before they take similar hasty action again in the future.
Because really, that's the only thing that's likely to get their attention.
I love LJ. I love almost everything about it; it works wonderfully for me and has been a huge blessing in my life. I hope that fandom is able to find a way to stay here. I hope that 6A doesn't make it impossible.
I love LJ too. It works for me, especially since I can add feeds from just about anywhere to read in my flist.
I'm hoping reinstatements proceed quickly for those wrongly suspended. And LJ might not be amiss in giving them a bit of free service or something too.
I was seriously considering it but with the way that Six Apart is handling itself, I doubt I will now.
Although I do think that purchasing the perm. account means you're giving less money to them over all because instead of constantly repaying them every so often, you give them one lump sum and they can't really get any more money out of you.
I can't imagine anyone in fandom buying one at this point. Once bitten, and all that.
As far as the money is concerned, a sizable influx of immediate capital is often more attractive to a business than projected long-term revenue that may not actually happen.
I wonder if anyone has stats on how many Permanent Accounts were purchased in the last sale. And I wonder if they had any projections on how many they'd anticipated selling this time. Hmmmmm.
I figure fandom will move on to something else one of these days, so have never planned to get a permanent account. I don't even really need a paid one since I don't care one way or the other about icons, but have bought them for the past few years to "support the site".
I have never regretted buying mine in the last sale... and unless fandom decamps en masse very quickly, I'll probably still come out ahead or at least break even in the long run.
But I'd be astonished if anyone in fandom buys a new one now.

But in this poll I'm looking for immediate financial impact, something that 6A might see hitting their books within the next 30 days.
So the Poll Of Permanent Account Regret will have to wait for another post. *g*
