Porn with a purpose
I've mostly been keeping my mouth shut on the LJ deletions issue, since the bases seem to be pretty well covered by a lot of smart and well-spoken people.
But sage_theory has proposed something I can get behind, and it's something I haven't seen elsewhere as yet.
A Vote for Porn is a Vote for Freedom
Meg proposes a great all-fandom Porn-Off:
Let's do what we do best, fandom. Let's write and share and flaunt our freedoms and our fantasies and our work like nobody can stop us. Because in the end, nobody can. We were around long before this mess happened, and we will be around long after. It'll be us and the cockroaches after the nuclear fallout.
So let's not get afraid. Let's do the opposite.
Let's porn like we've never porned before, people. Let's say that no matter what kind of witch hunts or shut downs or deletions we face that we're like weebles and you can wobble us 'til kingdom come, but we are NOT FALLING DOWN.
I like this idea a lot. It's an active exercise in freedom of speech. It's a positive expression of who we are and what we do, what we love. And it could be a great morale booster right about now.
