You are all terribly distrustful. That's good.

So that you're working with an informed opinion however, this was the work of neither myself nor the Organization.

The decision was tempting enough, but confirming some parts of the letter makes the choice even more difficult. Considering all the different worlds we come from, is it really possible for a single portal to send us back to our correct worlds and times? I don't trust it either.

By "breaking apart," do they mean losing our sanity?

What would happen if the Malnosso became panicked?

[Because Jay, for one, would not mind provoking them...]

That's because you don't understand Shifting, but that's all right. It's not really a "portal" anyway.

No.

More than likely they'd do whatever they could to keep you from that so-called "gate" on Friday. Probably use that same Shifting sequence that murdered the hybrids way back when.

[It's true, that science is not one of Jay's strong points.]

All the more reason not to trust this thing...

Last month, we had John's little amusement park, and now this month we have these odd letters. Are the Malnosso taking a vacation of their own, or are they too busy with their experiments on individuals?

There's a danger to Shifting too much; they've learned their lesson since. Why do you think they generally only run one experiment a month?

[Time to be blunt...]

Because I'm still rather new, and I'm still gathering information on the situation. But there's obviously a lot more to it than what we can see.

Hm, that's true. Not everyone takes that into account.

Well, so that you know, Shifting has side-effects. ...long-term, of course, so I doubt you'd see any symptoms now.

So passing through this gate would cause a Shifting process?

malnosso November 24 2009, 19:55:35 UTC
If it actually sends you home, yes. ...it's probably going to Shift no matter what it does, though.

[Sigh]

And there's still no way to know whether it'll send us home. It seems that things will end badly regardless of what we do.

Unless this "gate" works, of course.

Is there any way to know whether this gate actually works? Aside from actually walking into it, I mean?

If given the opportunity to run a full-scale analysis on it and maybe if John had the original formula that kick-started the Shift, he probably could.

But the likelihood of that happening is pretty slim.

[Exasperated sigh]

I suppose I'll just have to let the idiots become decoys for me.

But even then, it still wouldn't necessarily show whether the gate works...

Looks like you're just shit out of luck, boy wonder.

Aren't we all?

I'll just have to bide my time then.
