Military, huh?

[ there she is again. on the list. this pleases her although she thinks perhaps she should feel guilty over that pleasure. there are other names on it, though. hmm. ]

Define wildlife. Lions, tigers, bears -- oh my?

Among other things. Further details can be supplied in our facilities before the battle begins.

I know you said all that stuff about enemies and ranks being unknown but -- [ she clears her throat. it's an important question and some people will hear it but maybe some people have to hear it: ] Any chance of their General showing his face, this time? I'm starting to feel a little stood up.

...Ah, you are the woman who killed him, aren't you?

[She's suddenly interested.]

And the woman he sent his -- [ cue the driest of dry sarcasm; derek's death had rocked her badly. ] -- regards to the last time he was on he field and I wasn't.

But since then? He's mostly been a no-show. How rude.

Our enemy's general has far too many rivals throughout the world to make a personal appearance each time one is on the field of battle. He and I have killed each other at least a dozen times by now, and I've not faced him in over six months.

Never expect to face their trump card when the most basic warriors will do the job.

[ there is no pride, here. no competition. a simple, consuming curiousity: ] You and him too, huh? Are you to your military what he is to them?

[ a beat, then: ] Does he have a name?

More or less. His army is guided by different morals than my own, by our rank is, in essence, the same. His name, however, is unknown to me.

Yeah, I was unpleasantly acquainted with their morals during my not-so-friendly chat with his Generalness.

[ but that made her wonder what this commandant's morality had to say. but important questions. that's what she had stressed. ] Does he delegate at all? I mean -- are they as immediately leaderless as we are, out there? Or is there an actual sub-sub-sub-commander kind of deal that we can target instead?

He has a recognizable chain of command, though they are more difficult to locate than he is. Focus on the Elite soldiers and the most powerful Shifters- they have higher ranks than the rest. That may help.

[ shifters. ugh. she hopes she won't be running into those. ]

Okay. Right -- [ she practically sounds grateful. there is something about chatting with this 'commandant' that buffy prefers to catherine. she likes her strategy straight. ] Now, about this 'training village'. Are we talking one of theirs?

Correct. The facility has been unexplored and untouched by our soldiers were several generations.

[Just...very quietly keeping tabs on this line of questioning in the middle of his own.

Sorry, Buffy. But you're not the girl he knows from back home, and he could trust that girl in a war.]

[Someone is listening, and holding very tightly to a certain locket as he does so.]

[ there may have to be a talk. sometime -- in the next two days or in the rain forest.

a hotel-free, reward-free draft. but reward is in the eye of the beholder and depending on how her conversation with this 'commandant' progresses, there might be a silver lining to be found. it could be like a camping trip...just with more violence and press-ganging. ]
